Between being back to work, studying, getting the gardens up and running, and blogging, it's been a whirlwind of a month. When life gets crazy it's so important to keep up with your health and remember to take a step back and remember to take some downtime for yourself. This practice isn't something that most people find the time to do because they feel there is no time, there's too much to do and stopping isn't a very productive task when in fact it's very much the opposite. When the busy starts to take over, it's time to stop and smell the roses, or in my case the strawberries.
Our sweet strawberry season is finally greeting us with the taste of summer. We've all been driving by the fields just waiting for the sign to be propped up telling us we can come and stain our fingers pink while also fulfill that childhood tradition of popping a warm berry in our mouth as we pick. It's the time of year that let's us Ontarians breathe easy knowing that Summer is officially back and thoughts of Winter are officially out of our minds.

My hunny and I are lucky enough to live around the corner from a pick-your-own patch so we can travel down regularly to keep our supply fresh while the season lasts. We'll be freezing a few bags this year because there is something so comforting about the smell of the patch when the cooler seasons begin to roll in and Summer feels like more of a dream. Pulling them out in November and making pie, or that classic banana-strawberry nut-milk shake reminds you that the warm weather will rise again.
Taking the time to truly appreciate these moments is so important before they pass us by. Similar to the changing seasons, they won't last forever. Time passes and leaves fall but remembering the smell of that patch with the sun on your back, laughing with the one you love, that's what matters.
To conduct this calming self-time, the steps are incredibly easy.
Step 1: Head deep into a strawberry patch.
Step 2: Get down in there, breathe, pick and maybe pop a sun-warmed berry into your mouth. Feel good.
Step 3: Breathe. This is so important.
Step 4: Go home and make this smoothie to keep the simplicity flowing, while also fueling your body with the goodness it deserves.
Step 5: Repeat. And don't forget to breathe.
The ingredients for this beauty are as follows:
2 Bananas
A heaping handful of fresh, destemmed strawberries
1 Heaping tbsp of ground flax seeds
Blend until smooth and drink. It's so simple but so incredible.
Love your body and love thy self.
